Mercedes revs up career aspirations

Petrol heads dreams came true at UTC Swindon on Friday, 13 January, when the secondary school hosted a visit from Synter Mercedes Benz of Swindon.

This was an opportunity for the students to find out what opportunities are available to them at Mercedes when they leave school.

As well as bringing along some of its current apprentices, Mercedes brought along a beautiful set of cars, and a tempting array of components for the engineering-specialist students to tinker with.

Apprentices from Mercedes’ technician, parts and body shop schemes gave an inspiring talk to the students, enlightening them about what working for Synter Mercedes Benz would be like. Year 13 student Tyler Anderson said it was ‘a very engaging visit’, while Jasper Luckes, who is keen to pursue a career in the field, said ‘it gave a really good insight into the automotive industry’.

Head of School Neil Pouney said:

“The Mercedes team that attended the school really enthused the students in taking up apprentice opportunities with them. This is something that we encourage from all our employer partners. It really helps set the students up for their next destination.”

This kind of employer visit is common for UTC Swindon – next Friday (20 January) BMW will be coming in to work with our students to show them what working for BMW looks like.
