Welcome to UTC Swindon’s Sixth Form
Apply for Year 12 – September 2024
Our Sixth Form is different to the standard post-16 experience. In our Sixth Form, we help students develop independence and freedom, supporting and challenging them to learn in a way that prepares them for the world of work.
We offer a varied STEM focused curriculum that allows students to combine A levels with BTECs in a small learning environment where they are really known by their teachers.
Our Sixth Formers enjoy incredible facilities and equipment, close connections with employers and pastoral support tailored just for them, encouraging them to grow and develop into young adults, ready for the next step.
But that’s not all. Unique to UTC Swindon’s Sixth Form is:
SPECIALISED AND FOCUSED CURRICULUM
We offer a choice of A levels and BTECs in a wide variety of subjects including a Level 3 extended diploma in Engineering, exclusive to us locally
WORLD-CLASS EMPLOYER CONNECTIONS
We enjoy almost weekly visits from local employers large and small, and our students
benefit from face to face learning, project days and work placements
GENUINE PREPARATION FOR WORK
Industry standard equipment and a curriculum carefully designed with key employers to make learning as relevant and transferable to the world of work as possible
What can you actually study here?
Our Sixth form curriculum, like the Year 10 and Year 11 curriculum, is very focused on our specialisms of digital and engineering, and the other STEM subjects. In our Sixth Form, you pick one of three routes of study; the technical engineering route, the cyber security route or the A Level route.
In the technical engineering route, you can pick between four different level 3 BTEC options, all equivalent to 4 A Levels (or 3.5 if AS Maths is chosen):
- Extended Diploma in Engineering with A Level Maths
- Extended Diploma in Engineering with AS Maths
- Diploma in Engineering with A Level Physics and either A Level Maths or AS Maths
- Diploma in Engineering with an Extended Certificate in IT and AS Maths.
In the A Level route you will study A Level Maths and then 3 further options from:
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Computer Science
- English
In the Digital and Cyber Security route, you can choose from two options:
- Level 3 BTEC IT / Cyber Security Diploma, BTEC Extended Certificate in E-sports and either A Level Maths or AS Maths
- Level 3 BTEC IT / Cyber Security Diploma, BTEC Extended Certificate in E-sports, A Level Computer Science and either A Level Maths or AS Maths
Entry requirements
All our courses require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above. The Technical Engineering pathway additionally requires a 5 or above in Maths, or a 6 or above to study the Extended Diploma. The A Level pathway requires higher grades in the subject you wish to study: a 5 or above in English, and a 6 or above for Maths and Science subjects.
