GATSBY BENCHMARK
It is our responsibility to support our students by not only giving advice to make the right decision, but also by providing them with independent information, and teaching them interpersonal and management aptitudes, which are crucial skills when starting a career. We will draw on the eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance which include:
- A stable careers programme
- Learning from career and labour market information
- Addressing the needs of each pupil
- Linking curriculum learning to careers
- Encounters with employers and employees
- Experiences of workplaces
- Encounters with further and higher education
- Personal guidance
For Students
Students will have a number of other careers related opportunities throughout the academic year to complement their studies and continue to develop their employability skills in preparation for the world of work.
- Subject Specific Celebration Weeks e.g. National Apprenticeship Week
- Opportunities for one-to-one careers advice from ADVIZA
- PSHE and Personal Professional Development Programme throughout the academic year
- Specialist enrichments lead by industry professionals
- Employability skills days
- Guest Speakers Programme
- External Trips and Visits
- Work Experience Opportunities
For Parents
- All careers related events that take place off site or beyond the end of the school day will require a consent form which will be sent home prior to the event taking place.
- All businesses that attend the school for careers purposes are DBS checked and/or are supervised whilst working with our students.
- All our year 10 and 12 students will attend a two week work experience placement and UTC Swindon asks that you support us and the students with allocating these placements. If you need any further information, please contact Hollie Danby.
- We are always keen to have parents who work for, or who own, their own business related to Engineering or Digital to work with us and our students. If you think you may be able to support our UTC in anyway, please contact Hollie Danby hdanby@utcswindon.co.uk
