Year 11 students at UTC Swindon are celebrating getting the results that will set them on the next stage of their education and careers.

Jaret Wrintmore, from Melksham, was “shocked” by his outstanding results that included Grade 8s in English literature, maths and computer science, as well as a raft of Grades 7 and 6. Jaret says: “I’m completely shocked! I had no great expectations this morning and I’m delighted with these results.” Jaret is dyslexic and was particularly pleased to pass English language, which was his hardest subject. He will be attending Sixth Form at UTC Swindon and is planning to pursue a career in cyber security.

Adam Pike from Swindon is “amazed!” at his excellent results including Grade 7 in English language, Distinction in BTEC Level 2 Engineering and Grade 6 in computer science, chemistry, English literature, English language and physics, plus a B in business studies. Adam is starting an apprenticeship with Honda, which he first learned about at a UTC Swindon careers fair, and plans to become a Senior Maintenance engineer and build a career in the automotive industry.

Finley Belcher of Longcot is “really happy” with his results which include a Distinction in NCFE Engineering, a Grade 8 in physics and Grade 7s in chemistry, English literature, geography and maths, plus Grade 6s in biology, English literature and computer science. Finley has secured a sought-after mechatronics apprenticeship at Diamond Light Source, the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. He plans to pursue a degree in mechatronics engineering.

Thomas Hearn from Swindon has his future planned now that he has achieved the results he needs to go into Sixth Form at UTC Swindon. “If I get the grades I need at A-level I am going to join the Army – the Rifles – at officer level.” Thomas plans to study ICT and cyber security in Sixth Form and will be one of the first students to embark on the college’s new cyber security specialism.

Jack Moss from Swindon has already started his apprenticeship in storage, warehousing, logistics and electronics with Ashley Controls. He was delighted with his passes in maths, English, BTEC Level 2 in Engineering and NCFE Level 2. “It’s a big weight off my mind,” he said, “my employers let me start the apprenticeship before I got my results, but they’ll be very pleased that I’ve passed!” Jack is planning to treat his family to a meal tonight to celebrate.

Ziemowit Jozefowski from Swindon is pleased with his Distinction in Level 2 Engineering and raft of Grade 7 marks. He also gained a Grade 6 in German. Ziemowit is joining Sixth Form at UTC Swindon for one month before transferring to UTC Leeds to study A-levels in engineering, maths and physics. After Sixth Form he plans to start Royal Navy Engineering Apprenticeship and build a career.

Principal of UTC Swindon, Jon Oliver, said: “Our students have some fantastic plans for their futures and their results, plus the skills they’ve learned here, will help them achieve their ambitions. Whether they’re returning to UTC Swindon for Sixth Form, or embarking on apprenticeships, we wish them every success.”
