UTC Swindon to launch NEW Fujitsu Innovation Hub

In June, UTC Swindon will be launching its own Fujitsu Innovation Hub, aimed at enhancing students’ digital learning. We will be sending out news and information on this fantastic new Hub in the coming weeks – keep posted!


NEW Digital qualifications available to Sixth Form students –  coming soon! 

UTC Swindon will be offering new digital qualifications to its Sixth Form students.

Students will soon be able to follow separate pathways in digital and computing technologies as well as Engineering, or a combination of both.

New courses include Level 3 Technical Award in Cyber Security and industry standard Microsoft Technology Associate qualifications (units include IT Infrastructure, Database and Developer).

Students at UTC Swindon celebrate securing top engineering apprenticeships

Students at UTC Swindon have got their feet firmly on the path to their future careers as they celebrate securing apprenticeships with top employers in the region.

After receiving their examination results in August, the students will get the opportunity to learn and earn as they put their skills into practice in the workplace with companies such as Batten & Allen, Fundamentals and Diamond Light Source.

Year 13’s compete in the final of the Craftsman CUP Challenge

On Wednesday 23 May, Year 13 UTC Swindon students headed to the Ministry of Defence, Lyneham for the final of the Craftsman CUP challenge.

The final showcased the teams’ design, innovation and craftsman abilities, with teams presenting their projects to a group of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers’ (REME) dignitaries.

UTC Swindon showcases what it has to offer at latest open event

UTC Swindon received a great turn out on Thursday 10 May for its latest open event, opening the doors to prospective Year 10 and 12 students and their parents.

Visitors had the opportunity to explore the school, being taken on a tour by one of the current students and able to ask questions about life at a UTC, and what it has to offer.

Teacher Profile: Ben Griffin

Ben is in his first year of teaching Computer Science, 3D printing and IT at UTC Swindon and has, this month, been promoted to Curriculum Leader of Digital and Computing – a fantastic achievement and something which just reflects the fantastic progression opportunities at this college.

Before joining the UTC last September, Ben undertook a ‘School Direct’ training programme to become a full-time teacher.

Students take part in a two day challenge at University of Oxford

During the Easter holidays, eight Year 10 UTC Swindon students embarked on an exciting two-day challenge at the University of Oxford, as part of the Fantastic Futures Programme with Study Higher.
