Students receive high praise following work experience at Patheon

UTC Swindon students have received some fantastic feedback after completing a two-week work experience placement at Patheon.

Throughout their time at Patheon, students took part in a variety of activities including visiting the water rooms on the roof.

Year 5 students reach for the sky at UTC Swindon STEM Day

Local Year 5 pupils launched rockets, chemically engineered goo and coded computer games at a recent STEM Day hosted by UTC Swindon.

UTC Swindon were delighted to welcome pupils and teachers from Lawn Primary School and Robert Le Kyng Primary School on Friday 14 July as they ran a series of activities to spark their interest in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

UTC Reading and UTC Swindon staff collaborate at SLT conference

UTC Reading and UTC Swindon’s Senior Leadership Teams came together on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 July for a conference, giving them the opportunity to share best practice and plan together for the next academic year.

Joanne Harper, Executive Principal at UTC Reading and UTC Swindon, commented: “The conference was a fantastic opportunity to bring the two UTC teams together and share experiences, ideas and expertise. It is working together in this way that highlights the positive impact that working together in a multi Academy Trust, such as ALET can bring. At the end of the two days everyone left feeling positive and looking forward to the year ahead.”

Students compete at The Royal International Air Tattoo

A group of UTC Swindon students competed against eight other schools in an engineering challenge at this year’s Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT).

The competition followed a visit to the UTC by STEMworks and NATS in May, tasking students with designing and building a tower to enable them to send a message by raising a flag and using a flashing light.

UTC Swindon runs practical workshops for September applicants

We were recently delighted to welcome students interested in joining us in September to an open day and practical workshop.

UTC Swindon’s open day was a great success, with students and parents being given the opportunity to tour the school and speak to students, staff and employers. Applicants for September also took part in an engineering activity.

Student thrives at Torin-Sifan work placement

Year 12 student Ben Rickards had a fantastic two weeks of work experience with Torin-Sifan this term.

Torin-Sifan was suggested as a suitable placement for Ben due to his passion and enthusiasm for mechanical and electrical engineering. He was looking forward to the chance to broaden his understanding of the engineering workplace and improving his practical skillset.

Extra-curricular student achievements

We are always delighted to hear about our students’ achievements through extra-curricular activities they take part in outside the school day.

Our two examples of student success stories from this term include Fin Dyer, who is a member of Swindon Volunteer Police Cadets, and Lewis Mason, captain of local American football team Swindon Storm.

Drop-in days – Thursday 24 and Friday 25 August

If you are interested in joining UTC Swindon for Year 12 in September, come and visit us on Thursday 24 August between 11am and 3pm, or Friday 25 August between 9am and 3pm, for the chance to meet a member of staff and discuss your options.
