On a roll with sandwich challenge

The whole of year 13 took part in a mock assessment centre run by Pathway CTM to prepare them for group interview processes they may encounter at job or apprenticeships.

The group were tasked in teams with designing a new sandwich that would be sold through Pret A Manger stores.

The innovative products they came up with were the Meggy (meat and egg cube), the Everyone (suitable for all dietary requirements without compromise), the Heart Stopper (M&Ms and deep fried Mars Bar between Waffles covered in Syrup) and the Soggy Special (unique combination of bread around tomatoes, ham, mushy peas and blue cheese).

Dodgy food tastes aside the students engaged enthusiastically with the task and everyone took turns presenting their ideas at the front.

The winner was the Heart Stopper which combined unbelievable amounts of sugar and a social message which the judges really liked combined with the team’s enthusiasm and confident presentation.

Group working is a key element at many interviews and this event will give the students confidence when completing a similar task with new people.

The event was kindly supported by employers CBRE and LMG who judged the presentations and answered questions from the students. This type of event is one of the reasons why UTCs are unique in preparing our students for the world of work after school.
