Turning an old but iconic power station into housing, leisure and retail was the challenge facing our students at UTC Swindon today; could they turn Ratcliffe-on-Soar into a smart, self-sustained city in a day?
The students worked in teams, allocating themselves roles like project manager, finance manager, engineering and business manager, to help them build both the skills and understanding of what it’s like to work across disparate teams in an organisation against a deadline.
Supported by willing volunteers from our Digital Futures Programme, students blew everyone away with fantastic ideas and ways to reuse resources, incorporate education and medical facilities, transport and sustainable power ideas. The students worked incredibly well on a tough challenge and demonstrated great practical and technical skills.
Thank you to all our students, staff and employer mentors today; this kind of day is what attending a UTC is all about.
