Following on from last week’s excellent A-level results, UTC Swindon is delighted to reveal that GCSE examination results were equally pleasing.

50% of students achieved 4+ in both English and mathematics, a significant improvement on 2016. Results across all subjects have improved including excellent results in our engineering specialism, with 35% of students achieving the highest possible grades (equivalent to A and A*).

Jon Oliver, UTC Swindon Principal, said: “We are exceptionally proud of our hardworking pupils and their teachers for this set of amazing GCSE results. It’s also vitally important to mark the achievements of those pupils who have worked hard to achieve great results for themselves personally, at whatever level, and we pay a special tribute to those whose dedication and diligence has enabled them to surprise themselves this year.”

Congratulations must go to Lawrence James who gained Distinction* in both Engineering courses, an A* and four A/7 grades. He is extending his studies next year in engineering and computing. Another fantastic result was achieved by Tom Whatley, who gained Distinction*/Distinction in engineering as well as three A/7+ grades and is taking STEM A-levels at UTC Swindon in September. James Jardim and Mateo Seferi have secured prestigious and highly competitive apprenticeships with Rolls-Royce and Mercedes-Benz respectively.

Joanne Harper, Executive Principal, commented: “Examination results have significantly improved and gives the UTC an opportunity to celebrate. We have a fantastic staff and student body and they should rightly be proud of their achievements.”

Lawrence James gained the first UTC Swindon A* grade, to go with Distinction* in Engineering and seven other grades at B/6 or better.
James Jardim has secured an apprenticeship with Rolls Royce, along with a great set of GCSE results!
Tom Whatley achieved an 8 in maths, Distinction and Distinction* in engineering, A and B in science, B in computer science and 6 and 7 in English. He is continuing his education at UTC Swindon in September to study Level 3 Engineering, A-level Maths and Physics
