Year 12 student, Sophie, joined UTC Swindon in Year 10 and now studies double IT, Cyber Security and English Literature in the Sixth Form.

“I used to go to a school with a lot of students in and found that I wasn’t really focusing. I wanted to move somewhere smaller, where I could specialise and get more one-to-one support. At the time, I hadn’t heard of UTC Swindon, but after receiving a letter, I was really interested, so I came in for a meeting and joined shortly after!”

“At the UTC, you are treated like an adult and get so many great opportunities coming your way. We get valuable work experience, access to the UTC Pipeline Programme and visitors come in to do talks with us. The Sixth Form facilities are also really good, with a big break out area and high-tech equipment.”

“I chose Wiltshire Police as my UTC Pipeline Partner and on the first day with them, went along to the station, received a tour and they talked us through what they do and also about a big part of their business; cyber security. We also get access to the Fantastic Futures Programme, which offers career guidance detailing the options that may be available to us. The UTC also runs a big Careers Fair every year, so we get to meet with local and national employers and find out about apprenticeship schemes and job routes. There really is access to so much support to steer you on your dream path.”
