My experience as a parent of a Year 12 student at UTC Swindon

My son joined UTC Swindon in Year 12 after having started at another Sixth Form college, which he did not enjoy.

We chose UTC Swindon as my son needed something different to what he was being offered at other sixth forms and he had come to the decision that engineering was the route he wanted to take. Having been impressed with the school website and its testimonials, we applied to join. Instantly, my son took to the staff and the course.

He is now studying a BTEC Engineering Extended Diploma and after finishing, is looking to go into design engineering as this is the element of the course he is enjoying most.

As a parent, I have been impressed with the clear and regular communication ever since joining. His teachers have been very caring and have emailed regularly when he has had a period of sickness to ensure he was okay. My husband was impressed at the feedback he received about our son and his learning when he came to the parents evening.

Our son has far more direction now. The course has allowed him to try different areas of engineering and he now knows what he would like to do as a career.

I would recommend UTC Swindon to others. Our son is doing well, he is motivated and we have received clear communications from staff. Nothing has been too much trouble.
