UTC Swindon alumni, Poppy, has secured an apprenticeship with major commercial vehicles manufacturer, Scania, and has found the path to her dream career.

Poppy, who joined UTC Swindon in Year 12, said: “I studied at the UTC for two years and achieved a D*D in my Engineering BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma, which I was really pleased with. When I finished my studies, I took a year out, working, to find the right apprenticeship. The skills I had gained from UTC Swindon, as well as my qualification, stood me in good stead. For me, the BTEC was absolutely the right way to go.”

“My apprenticeship is two years and it involves dealing with Scania truck parts, taking orders from customers, finding parts for the technicians in the workshop and delivering parts to customers, as well as much more.

“I started in January and it’s going so well – it’s amazing! There are so many lovely, welcoming people there and great benefits. After my apprenticeship, I hope to stay on as a qualified parts advisor and then potentially work my way up to technician.

“I would recommend UTC Swindon to anyone. It is the specialist school for engineering and STEM-related subjects and once you have got your grades and soaked up the experience, you have so much potential and so many opportunities.

“I made amazing friends there and had such approachable teachers. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the teachers there for all their hard work, patience and continued support. I am so thankful to be on the way to my dream career.”
