Year 12 student Abbie, tells us of her experience studying at a University Technical College (UTC).

“I joined UTC Swindon in Year 10 as my current school was no longer offering resistant materials and engineering and I really wanted to study those. I researched several options and had heard of UTC Swindon so went along to find out more. Once I had come along to the taster day here, I found it was everything I had wanted.”

“I loved how the offer was expressed and how unique it is. It isn’t for everyone, but for those that want to develop themselves and get the most out of their education studying technical subjects, you can really thrive here.”

“In Sixth Form, you are able to choose an industry ‘Pipeline Partner’ as part of the UTC Pipeline Programme. Throughout the year, you get to work closely with them. I chose Honda, and on our very first Pipeline Day we were shown around their factory to see where they manufacture car parts. During the second session, we were making model cars, which had no motors, and we had to get them to run using physics. It was all part of us working together as part of a team to solve the problem.”

“Being at this UTC has not only prepared me professionally for my next step, but also personally. I am hoping to go to Bristol or Oxford University when I finish here to study Civil Engineering and Architecture.”
