UTC Swindon’s Year 13 students are celebrating this morning after securing examination results that will open the doors to a range of exciting industry apprenticeship, university degrees and degree apprenticeships. The college, which specialises in engineering and digital technologies, saw continued successes in STEM subjects, including engineering, IT, mathematics, computer science, chemistry and physics.
The results have gained students places on sought-after STEM courses at universities including Southampton and Toronto and have laid excellent foundations for industry apprenticeships and employment, in engineering, digital technology and the British Army.
A couple students who have excelled are Tom W who achieved a Distinction in Engineering securing a degree apprenticeship with MBDA UK and Leo R who achieved A,B,B in (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) confirming his place at University of Southampton to study Chemistry.
Principal of UTC Swindon, Jon Oliver, said: “I’m delighted to congratulate our students on their achievements, which are well-deserved after their hard work. I’m particularly pleased with the variety of exciting apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships and university courses that our students have secured. I hope that they will build on the academic and workplace skills that they have learned with us here at UTC Swindon and wish them every success in their future careers.”

UTC Swindon is strongly focused on preparing students for their future careers, supporting them with everything from CV-writing and interview preparation to the day-to-day skills required to succeed in the workplace. This, combined with opportunities to work with the college’s industry partners, gives UTC students a distinct advantage when applying for higher education courses and employment.
Over the last three years, a large proportion of Year 13 UTC leavers overall went on to start apprenticeships, with 75% securing apprenticeships last year compared to 6% nationally.
