Examination results put students on the path to fulfilling careers in a wide range of STEM-related fields.

UTC Swindon’s Year 13 students are celebrating this morning after securing examination results that will open the doors to a range of exciting industry apprenticeship, university degrees and degree apprenticeships. The college, which specialises in engineering and digital technologies, saw grades continue recent years’ high levels of performance in these areas with over 70% of grades awarded at starred Distinction or Distinction level (equivalent to A-level grades A-B) and 100% at Level 3 achieving a pass or better (equivalent to A-level grades A*-E).

The results have won students places on sought-after engineering courses at universities including Imperial, Southampton and Portsmouth and have secured other students apprenticeships with companies such as BMW, Mercedes Benz, Network Rail, British Army (REME), AJK Services, Wilson Tools, Batten & Allen and grid control experts Fundamentals Ltd.

The Principal of UTC Swindon, Jon Oliver, said: “I’m delighted to congratulate our students on their achievements, which are well-deserved after their hard work. I’m particularly pleased with the variety of exciting apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships and university courses that our students have secured. I hope that they will build on the academic and workplace skills that they have learned with us here at UTC Swindon and wish them every success in their future careers.”

Joanne Harper, Executive Principal of UTC Swindon, said: “It is most pleasing to see students achieving great results in the specialist engineering courses offered at the UTC; it is even more pleasing to hear about the fantastic destinations that our students have secured for their future careers or further study.

“This is an important day for the next generation of UK engineers, scientists and technicians as they gain the qualifications that will put them on the pathway to careers in some of the world’s most innovative industries. A UTC education is an excellent foundation for entry into the workplace or further education and we are proud of what our students have achieved and look forward to following their progress.”

UTC Swindon is strongly focused on preparing students for their future careers, supporting them with everything from CV-writing and interview preparation to the day-to-day skills required to succeed in the workplace. This, combined with opportunities to work with the college’s industry partners, gives UTC students a distinct advantage when applying for higher education courses and employment.

Over the last 3 years, a quarter of Year 13 UTC leavers overall went on to start apprenticeships and last year 37% of those apprenticeships were at a higher or degree level.  This is more than six times the national average.
